NEW DELHI: Gearing up for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, the Centre has approved a Rs 678 crore special scheme to prepare sportspersons for the mega sporting event.
The 'Preparation of Indian Team for Commonwealth Games, 2010' scheme was approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), Finance Minister P Chidambaram told reporters after the meeting.
He said the scheme to be implemented in three years starting 2008-09 seeks to improve the country's competitiveness in international sports and enhance the medals tally in major events, particularly the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2008 and the Commonwealth Games in 2010.
