CHICAGO: The Punjab Sports Club Midwest hosted its sixth International Kabaddi Cup tournament at Busse Woods in Elk Grove Village, Chicago recently. Over 2500 spectators and Kabaddi fans with their families and friends from Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, Ohio, Kentucky, Seattle and Iowa attended the tournament.
Four international teams from East Canada, America, Midwest America and West Canada competed for the First Prize - a Gold Cup dedicated in memory of Late Subedar Kartar Singh by a prominent Businessman from Milwaukee, S.Darshan Singh Dhaliwal.
The Second Prize is dedicated to Late S. Lal Singh was donated by Balwinder Singh of A-One Carpets. Doaba Sports Club Chicago and Milwaukee team had a match which was stopped because of an injury.
The tournament started with Ardaas (Blessings from Almighty) and several very tough and close competitive matches were played till evening. Special arrangements were made for the spectators for their convenience and comfort with free entry, free food, free parking and live folk singing entertainment.
The final match was played between America and Toronto team and was won by America Team. It bagged the first prize of $11000 donated by Darshan Singh Dhaliwal in memory of his father Late Subedar Kartar Singh Dhaliwal.
Toronto Team grabbed the Second Prize of $8100 donated by Balwinder Singh of A-One Carpets in memory of his father Late S. Lal Singh. Best Raider of the tournament were Dula and Junny from America team and Best stopper of the tournament was Meek from America Team and was sponsored in memory of Late S.Harbhajan Singh Sahota and by Sidhu family respectively.
Live Commentary by world-renowned Kabaddi commentator Principal Sarwan Singh and Prof Makhan Singh thrilled the spectators with their typical and traditional Punjabi quotations and unique vocabulary Consul General of India Ashok Kumar Attri gave appreciation awards to sponsors. Kabaddi superstar and Arjun Award Winner Balwinder Singh Fidda and MLA from Punjab Sangat Singh Giljiyan were special guests of honor from India.
Pamma Cuisine provided the Punjabi food including Karhi, Rice, Cholle Bhature, Jalebiyan and barbeque all day, which was free for all and was sponsored by Sandhu and Kang family. World famous folk singer Nachattar Gill, Devinder Deol, Amar Arshi, Narinderjot, Shazia, Sikandar Brar and Ranjit Teji enthralled the audience with their live singing of their hit numbers and entertained till late evening. Dr Harjinder Khaira and Happy Heer coordinated the cultural program.
