Edison families enjoy a game of cricket
Sunday, 07.22.2007, 11:52pm (GMT-7)

NEW JERSEY: On July 7, a clear warm summer morning, the field at Johnson Park was filled with families to watch a game of cricket between members of Edison Cricket Club (ECC) against Indus. It was an important game for ECC as Indus had beaten them in two consecutive outings in the past two years.

Proving that cricket was being noticed big time in the US, Atul Huckoo, the President of ECC sat with Kevin Coyne of the New York Times briefing him about the nuances of the game of cricket which he was soon going to witness.

Led by Captain Sriram Srinivasan, it was ECC's day all through right from winning the toss and electing to bat first to finally, ending its inning at the 37th over with the score on 167, giving a target of 168 in 40 overs and a run rate of 4.2 per over for Indus to chase.

It was a convincing victory by 56 runs as ECC proved to be a far superior team on this day, although the Indus team led by skipper Akhilesh Singh, put up a spirited game. It was great all round performance from the Edison team as everyone played their part towards a great win.

The Man of the Match was awarded to Fahad Sultan of Edison Cricket Club for his contribution with the bat and the ball. The families and friends of both clubs, not to mention, Kevin Koyne of The New York Times, went home happy having watched a good and competitive game of cricket.

This victory brings the ECC's win factor up to 72 percent this season, in Conference B of the Cricket League of New Jersey.
