Wednesday, 08.01.2007, 12:44am (GMT-7)

India Post News Service

LOS ANGELES: The second SS Bajwa Memorial Golf Tournament was held at the prestigious Industry Hills Golf Club in City of Industry, California. Ravi Bakshi and Kyle George won first place in 'A' flight, Raja Mehta and Raj Trivedi in flight 'B' and Ramesh Patel won the first place in flight 'C'.

Over 165 golfers from California and India participated. The SS Bajwa Memorial Golf Tournament is in the second year and it had drawn players from India and other states of the USA. Kang Brothers of Cargo Solution Express Inc. held the tournament in fond memory of their uncle late S S Bajwa.

The Kang brothers believe that it is the values taught by their uncle that have enabled them to rise to a position where they can take up the cause of the needy and poor medical patients in need of an organ transplant. Initially they will be focusing in Punjab and eventually they would take their mission to rest of India.

The Kang brothers are likely to work in close cooperation with other charity organizations like the Vijay Amrithraj Foundation. The day's activities at the golf course ended at sundown and for the evening's events the players and the guests got together at the Diamond Palace Banquet Hall in Diamond Bar for the awards night dinner and dance party.

Yesteryears international tennis star Vijay Amritraj graced the occasion as chief guest. Former Windies' cricket captain, Richie Richardson was the guest of honor along with Jagdeep Singh Cheema , Secretary of Chandigarh Golf Club . The international galaxy of stars made the evening a memorable one for both players and the guests.

Vijay Amrithraj presented first prize, a Golf Trophy, to Ravi Bakshi and George Kyle who were the winners for this year. Prizes for the second places in other category were handed over by Richie Richardson and Jagdeep Singh Cheema. The raffle draw was another big attraction.

There were 20 prizes to be won, first prize being 72'' Panasonic plasma TV and golf equipment which was won by Kamlesh Doshi, who donated it to the Vijay Amrithraj Foundation. Richie Richardson also handed over other raffles prizes to the winners.

The surprise of the evening was a donation $10,000 to the Vijay Amrithraj Foundation by the Kang brothers. A point which was made evident that India has no boundaries. The Kang family is from Jalandhar, Punjab whereas the Amritraj foundation is very active in South India.

Vijay Amrithraj in his address thanked the Kang family for their donation and complimented the organizers for a great golf tourney and the community support it has generated.
