Airtel removes 10 towers close to Indo-Pak border

JAMMU: Country's top mobile service provider Airtel has removed 10 towers that were situated close to the India-Pakistan border in Jammu and Kashmir."Acting on the regulations of TRAI, Airtel has removed 10 mobile towers situated within 10-kms of Indo-Pak border in Jammu and Kashmir without affecting the mobile services in the rural border belts," company's chief operating officer (J&K circle) Vishal Sehgal told reporters in the backdrop of announcement of crossing 8 lakh subscriber mark in the state.Airtel is the only mobile company that has abided strictly by telecom regulations in view of the security situation in J&K, he said.

Referring to the passage of the mobile sim cards to militants, he said strict checks are undertaken of applications before issuing the number.The company has 1,100 mobile towers in the state, he said, adding that it now covers 20 districts out of 22 districts.Celebrating the 8 lakh subscriber base in the state, Airtel has introduced super life time validity recharge, under which the customer can get the recharge at Rs 499 instead of Rs 999 as applicable across the country, he said.It also launched voice mail message service for the first time in J&K.
