MUMBAI: Mumbai is all set for a makeover and infrastructure related projects worth USD eight billion would soon be implemented in the country's financial capital, Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said.He was speaking at a discussion on "Making India an International Financial Centre", organized by the CII and CitiBank at the 38th annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Deshmukh, who is the only Indian chief minister at WEF, said the efforts of Central and state government will show remarkable results. The speakers included Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel, Sanjay Nayar of Citi Bank and Airtel's Sunil Bharti Mittal, an official release said.

Asked how would Mumbai will live up to the expectations of the global citizen on issues like physical infrastructure and law and order situation, Deshmukh said the situation was conducive in positioning Mumbai as a global financial centre. In 2007, 46 international financial firms and 200 local firms opened offices in Mumbai, he said.Over 95 per cent stock transactions take place from Mumbai, he said.

He said the traffic congestion was always an issue in the city, Deshmukh said and it was possible that Tata's "Nano" car might add to it, but, added he was all for the car as it was common man's dream to own one.
