AIF hopes to raise $2 million at spring gala

NEW YORK: American India Foundation (AIF) will honor Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries, and Jeffrey Immelt, Chairman of GE at its Fifth Annual Spring Gala on April 30 in New York. The gala is the biggest India-centric philanthropic fundraiser in the United States. Ambani and Immelt will be honored on the occasion for their corporate and philanthropic commitment to India.

The goal for this year's fundraiser is $2 million.The gala is being chaired by Paul Kazarian, Managing Director of Japonica Partners and Martin Sullivan, President and CEO of AIG, and co-chairs include corporate luminaries such as Vikram Pandit, CEO of Citigroup, Sy Sternberg, CEO of New York Life, and Chip Kaye, Managing Director of Warburg Pincus and past president of the US India Business Council. The gala will raise funds for AIF's main activity of funding innovative Indian non-profit organizations in the areas of education, livelihood and public health.

There will be a special feature on AIF's vocational training initiatives in India, which are training and placing 50,000 urban unemployed youth in jobs in high-growth industries across the country.
