Insurance leader MetLife celebrates 140 years
Sunday, 03.30.2008, 10:32pm (GMT-7)

NEW YORK: MetLife, the largest US life insurer and leading provider of employee benefits, is celebrating 140 years of delivering on its promises and long-term guarantees for millions of customers spanning several generations.

The company, with more than 70 million customers around the world and operations throughout the United States and in the Latin America, Europe and Asia Pacific regions, is kicking off a series of events to mark its 140th anniversary:

  •  MetLife chairman of the board, president and chief executive officer Rob Henrikson, his executive team and Snoopy®, rang The Closing Bell® at the New York Stock Exchange on March 25.
  • The landmark historic clock tower at One Madison Avenue in New York was illuminated in MetLife blue from March 24 to March 28. The tower is seen as a harbinger of national events and celebrations as its palette of colors change for important national occasions and events.

  • In honor of 140 years in the city in which it was founded, MetLife is making a major contribution to New Yorkers for Parks. The gift will enable the "Daffodil Project" to provide 140,000 daffodil bulbs - the official flower of the city -- to be planted in 1,400 acres of New York City parks and open space. MetLife's partnership in the "Daffodil Project" will help strengthen the efforts of community volunteers and demonstrates the company's dedication to initiatives that improve the quality of life for residents and visitors alike.

"MetLife has had the privilege of touching millions of lives since the company first opened its doors on lower Broadway in 1868, and we are proud to celebrate 140 years," said Henrikson.
