NEW DELHI: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is building a comprehensive vision for India@75 and will undertake an "aspirational role" and facilitate India's transformation to a global leader by 2022.

This vision has been developed by Prof CK Prahalad, Paul Ruth McCracken University Professor, Ross School of Business and The University of Michigan. This was announced by K V Kamath, President CII at a special session on India@75 here.

Kamath said that CII is setting up a Mission on India@ 75. The CII theme for 2008-09 is "India@75: The Emerging Agenda". CII will adopt this vision as a long term agenda and will internalize this vision to build a strong vision over the coming years.

The special session from New Delhi was simultaneously viewed in Chennai, Kolkatta, Mumbai and Pune and was attended by a cross section of diverse stakeholders including parliamentarians, bureaucrats, civil society, student, young Indians besides industry. Kamath said that CII has found Prof. Prahalad's vision inspiring and achievable.

In more ways than one, CII's current plans and initiatives tackle most of the goals presented by him. Prof Prahalad in his presentation said that India can and should actively shape the emerging world order.

This demands that India must acquire enough economic strength, technological vitality and moral leadership. Prof Prahalad identified six big opportunities for India@75.

These include: India turning its population into a distinct advantage; becoming a home for at least 30 of Fortune 100 firms; account for 10% of world trade; becomes a source for global innovations; focus on the flowering of arts, science, and literature; and become the benchmark on how to cope with diversity.

Prof Prahalad said that these six opportunities when accomplished would change the influence of India around the world. CII is adopting a bottom-up approach to develop a comprehensive vision for India@75.

The CII Mission will draw up an action plan for India@75 Vision of CII with focus on the state level visions. A very important constituent for driving and setting the agenda will be the Young Indians.
