NEW YORK: The TiE Tri-State's 2007 Annual Event, "The US/India Corridor: Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges" held on Saturday, May 5 at the Marriott Marquis, portends what is in store for businesses between the two economic giants.
Throughout the day US and Indian business leaders discussed the various business opportunities available today in each of the respective countries. The conference started with a welcome and introduction by the TiE Tri-State President, Parag Saxena. Setting the tone for the conference was opening keynote speaker, Ramesh Shah, chairman, WNS.
His opening keynote speech discussed why India is an attractive market for US investors and why US capital markets are an attractive destination for Indian companies.
The day also included many panel discussions covering Investing, BioTech and Pharmaceuticals, IT, Soft Skills, Real Estate, and Tradition Infrastructure. New to this year's conference was a fireside chat featuring David Goldfarb of Lehman Brothers, Raj Rajaratnam of The Galleon Group, and Luis Miranda of IDFC Private Equity.
The conference culminated in a cocktail reception, allowing many of the participants to network and continue discussions started during the panel discussions and speeches presented throughout the day. Many of the speakers and participants of the conference flew to New York from India for this special opportunity. TiE was started in Silicon Valley in 1992.
Fifteen years later, TiE is a global organization with over 45 chapters and 10,000 members worldwide. TiE Tri-State's previous annual events since 2003 have been resounding successes and featured speakers such as Kenneth I. Chenault, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, American Express; Henry Paulson, Chairman and CEO, Goldman Sachs; Charles Prince, CEO, Citigroup; and Mukesh Ambani, MD, Reliance Group (India's largest company).
