A-I takes delivery of new Boeing 777-200LR
Sunday, 07.29.2007, 09:46pm (GMT-7)

NEW YORK: With the delivery of its first Boeing 777-200LR airliner this week, Air India took a major step forward in its multi-billion dollar modernization and fleet upgrade program that will significantly enhance passengers' in-flight experience with the latest in safety, comfort and entertainment. As part of the initiative, the company will commence daily nonstop service from New York to India using the Boeing 777-200LR (longer range) aircraft on August 1.

The airline has also completed extensive refurbishing of the first of six Boeing 747-400 aircraft that serve the carrier's US destinations, including New York, Newark, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Together with the 68 new Boeing aircraft that were recently ordered, the refurbished 747-400s will provide Air India, and its subsidiary Air India Express, with one of the youngest fleets in the world."The Boeing 777-200LR is the world's longest range commercial airplane, capable of flying more passengers farther and faster, and in the utmost comfort, than any other aircraft in the industry," remarked A.K. Mathur, Regional Director, USA and Canada.

"Our introduction of this remarkable aircraft into the North American market reflects our commitment to providing passengers with the highest quality in-flight experience in the industry."The 777-200LRs feature ergonomically designed flat beds with privacy partitions in Executive Class. First Class offers exclusive flat bed seats, each with an ottoman (buddy seat), built-in lumbar support and massage system, and individual storage and coat compartments. Audio Video on Demand (AVOD) entertainment is available at every seat throughout the aircraft.

The refurbishment of the 747-400s includes extensive renovations of cabin interiors and seating. Every seat will be equipped with a state-of-the-art personal entertainment system with access to nearly 200 movies in English, French and other languages. All First Class cabins will feature 180° reclining flat bed seats, and Executive Class passengers will enjoy the comfort of wide, 165° reclining seats with an aisle or window seat for every passenger.Mathur especially noted the stronger efforts placed on providing the business traveler with the amenities and comfort they demand.

"The US is India's largest trading partner, and we seek to provide the business traveler with a comfortable and productive experience that set new standards of excellence. At the same time, we ensure all our passengers enjoy the finest service, best meals, including a choice wine list, and the ultimate in state-of-the-art entertainment with a superior selection of music and movies from our vast library."
