Govt to help film industry develop overseas market
Monday, 09.03.2007, 12:27am (GMT-7)

NEW DELHI: In view of increasing demand of Indian movies among foreigners and Indians living abroad, the government is planning to undertake promotions of the films in the overseas market in a big way. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has formed five core groups, comprising representatives from the film industry, to submit their suggestions on measures to promote the film industry outside India.

"The core group on 'Export of Films and Related Issues' has submitted its recommendations and action is being taken," Information and Broadcasting minister P R Dasmunsi said. The Government is also encouraging Indian companies and producers to participate in global film festivals and markets.India pavilions are being set up and films are screened in different international film festivals to create awareness among the foreigners about Indian cinema, Dasmunsi said.

The growing Indian Diaspora around the world has created a market for Indian films overseas that continues to grow at a rapid rate.
