NEW YORK: Ohio State Rep. Jay P. Goyal, (D-73, Mansfield) has announced he is running for re-election in the 73rd House District. Announcing the filing of the petition required to run for re-election, Goyal, who is the youngest member of the Ohio General Assembly, said, "I appreciate the outpouring of support I have received from the residents of Richland County.

We have made good progress with property tax cuts, the higher education tuition freeze, and increasing the availability of health insurance, but there is still a lot of work to do. I whole-heartedly respect the opportunity given to me by my constituents, and plan to continue working for their best interests."

Goyal had in Nov 2006 made history when he became the first South Asian to be elected to serve in the Ohio Legislature. Rep. Goyal is currently serving in his first term in office and is eager to continue working for the needs of the people of Richland County.

He plans on working hard to show voters that he has done and will continue to do a great job for the people of his constituency. In his second term, Rep. Goyal plans on progressing towards finding solutions to improve healthcare and early childhood education, while continuing to find ways to help the community grow economically and fix the way Ohio funds its public education system.

He will continue to bring his first-hand knowledge of business and manufacturing to the job, he promises. Rep. Goyal also plans on running an aggressive campaign. His goal over the next election cycle is to make a push for a leadership position within the Ohio House of Representatives. In his freshman year itself, Rep. Goyal was appointed to the House the Ways and Means, Public Utilities, Health Care Access and Affordability, and the Financial Institutions, Real Estate and Securities Committees, which has been commended by Democratic Minority Leader Joyce Beatty.

He was also named the 2007 Ohio Young Democrat of the Year and was one of two members of the Ohio House of Representatives selected by a bi-partisan panel to receive a fellowship for the Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership Development.
