Candlelight vigil in New York for Anand Jon
Monday, 03.31.2008, 03:42am (GMT-7)

NEW YORK: On March 19, braving torrential rains and flash flooding that plagued the New York tri-state area, demonstrators, supporters, family members, attorneys and (for the first time) eye witnesses stood together to support the injustice incarcerating fashion designer Anand Jon.

The NY Criminal Courts Building at 100 Centre Street in Manhattan set the stage for the protest. Family members and supporters are shocked at the gridlock that is keeping the accomplished designer locked up in Los Angeles jail for 9 ½ months on allegations of sexual assault with shaky charges that even include an attempted kiss and inappropriate touching. "A fashion designer accused of inappropriate touching is ridiculous", one supporter scoffed.

"That would put every designer, stylist, tailor and dresser in the fashion industry in jail. It’s preposterous!" One of the attorneys on hand commented that "clearly there are injustices and inhuman violations of civil and human rights that plague the legal system today.

It is becoming apparent that fashion designer Anand Jon may be that poster boy for questionable activities in the prosecutor’s office verging on misconduct. There really needs to be a revamping of the system in light of the Duke University case and now Joe Francis."

Anand Jon is trapped in legal gridlock between New York and California jurisdictions as both look at the other to set standard for bail to allow the designer to properly defend himself against these he-said / she-said accusations.

Attorneys involved have related, "The lack of evidence is amazing here. There are allegations that go back to 2002.There were no 911 calls. No girls running down the street screaming ‘rape’. In fact, the designer lived in a building with at least 50 other apartments. And he was literally three blocks away from the Beverly Hills Police.

Most of the girls are claiming that there were even other people present during these ‘so-called assaults’. This whole case was paraded in front of the media to damage Anand Jon and allow any disgruntled person that worked with him, their opportunity for free publicity and potential money from civil suits while they were promised anonymity."

It has come out that several of the alleged victims have hired civil attorneys in preparation to go after the designer, who is the creative director for Jeanisis, a denim company with hand-painted high-end jeans that, according to insiders in the denim industry was to be the next hot thing.

The Anand Jon brand was evaluated at approximately $10 million and Wall Street was ready to pump millions into building the denim brand.

The investors had only provided seed capital for manufacturing and promotion, but the major chunk of money had not yet come in. So, whoever was collaborating against the designer jumped the gun on the money part of the scheme. One common thread weighed through the rain last Wednesday night: Anand Jon is innocent.

There were models that worked with him in the industry that knew these girls, worked with them and heard them plotting against him. "Models are petty.

They steal each other’s clothes, change looks for the runway backstage while they think no one is looking, they try to steal clothes and shoes after a fashion show when there is tons of commotion.

These girls are lying. Some are saying that they were assaulted during professional photo shoots and events with many others present. That was simply not the case." Another model claimed that the designer was like the "Simon Cowell of fashion".

He was blunt, to the point but always professional. The modeling industry is difficult. Girls are rejected constantly every day. If a girl needs to lose 10 pounds, he told her: you don’t fit in the jeans, loose 5 or 10 then come back. Some girls are not mentally equipped to handle criticism. And these weren’t professionals.
