Parade of Nations marks ‘UN Staff Day’

 NEW YORK: The United Nations General Assembly was riot of colors on April 25 when more than 450 guests from 192 countries celebrated annual “UN Staff Day 08” with spectacular Parade of Nations anchored and coordinated by Anand Pandey.Describing the experience of hosting the show at prestigious General Assembly hall as incredible Anand Pandey says “It’s a great honor for me and my country” from the UN Office of the Executive Secretary, ICSC.

The “UN Staff Day” is organized to acknowledge the service of United Nations staff members in various duty stations and peacekeeping operations. The day long event was marked off by a flag-hoisting ceremony by Deputy Secretary-General Dr. Asha-Rose Migiro of Tanzania. An Honor Guard from the Department of Security and Safety held the UN Flag and raised it to full mast to start the ceremony followed by Parade of Nations.

“The idea behind unique Parade of Nations is to showcase traditional dresses from 192 countries which can give a message of peace and cultural harmony to the world. This year theme is to support UN Millennium development goals and UNEP ‘Go Green’ policy” quoted Anand while making an introductory remark at General Assembly Hall.The day continued with international cultural performance from various countries. The Staff day ended with a pledge from member nations to work together to achieve UN Millennium Development Goals.
