WASHINGTON: 'Mahek', Indian director Kranti Kanade's first film, has been included in the curriculum of a leading US university. Otterbein College, Ohio will screen the Hindi movie by Pune-based writer-director Kanade as part of the curriculum syllabus of the Integrative Studies Program and the teaching of 'Modern India'.
'Mahek', which is Kanade's first film, is an introspective film that sensitively portrays the world of children and their rights, the University said. The film, produced by Children's Film Society of India (CFSI), is gleaning awards at international festivals including the Best Film award at the 10th Arpa Film festival, Hollywood and the Best Film (Family) Platinum Award at the 41st Houston Film Festival.
Founded in 1847, Otterbein is one of the oldest and prestigious universities in the US. It has previously included Aparna Sen's 'Mr & Mrs Iyer', 'Namesake' based on Jhumpa Lahiri's novel and Richard Attenborough's 'Gandhi' in its curriculum.
