Majority of voters unimpressed by Obama's foreign trip: Poll
Sunday, 08.10.2008, 10:13pm (GMT-7)

NEW YORK: Majority of voters are not impressed by Democratic US presidential candidate Barack Obama's much hyped trip abroad and want him to concentrate on domestic issues rather than foreign policy, a just-released poll shows. The poll conducted by CBS News found most of the voters are more concerned with domestic issues than foreign policy issues. The margin of error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Fewer than one in 10 voters say that the next president should focus on foreign policy issues, while nearly 8 in 10 voters want the next president to focus on domestic issues according to the poll published in the Times.Nearly half the voters want the candidates to address economic problems, including gas prices and jobs. Two-thirds of voters say the economy and gas prices are issues that a president can do a lot about.

The survey also found Obama holding about a six per cent lead among the voters who say they have made up their mind on the candidate to support in the election. But still one in three told pollsters that it is rather early to decide and analysts say that they are surprised by the large number of undecided voters.Seven in 10 voters who support a candidate said they had made up their mind, while three in 10 said it is still too early to say for sure.

The poll found 45 per cent of voters supporting Obama and 39 percent backing McCain which remains unchanged from the New York Times/CBS News poll conducted last month. The telephone survey was conducted from July 31 to August 5 with 906 registered voters.
