IALI to honor Indian American Democrats
Tuesday, 08.26.2008, 11:15pm (GMT-7)

WASHINGTON: Highlighting the contributions made by the Indian-Americans, a Democrat organization, working to mobilize the community for political purposes, will host a reception to honor prominent elected members of the community from across the country. The Indian American Leadership Initiative (IALI) has announced that the reception, the only Indian-American event at the Democratic National Convention, will show the vital role Indian-Americans are playing in growing and strengthening the Democratic Party.

The function will be addressed by former New York Solicitor General Preeta Bansal, San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris, Michigan State Senator Hansen Clarke, and Kansas State Representative Raj Goyle, the IALI said in a statement. Ohio State Representative Jay Goyal, New Jersey Transportation Commissioner Kris Kolluri, Virginia Secretary of Technology Aneesh Chopra, and District of Columbia Chief Technology Officer Vivek Kundra will also make remrks at the event.

The IALI will also unveil the 2008 Almanac of Indian-American Democrats which features in-depth profiles of almost 100 active Indian-American Democrats across the country. It is being pointed out that the Indian-American community is one of the fastest-growing, wealthiest and best-educated immigrant groups in the United States.
