Kashmir, reducing N-risks on Obama agenda
Sunday, 09.28.2008, 11:10pm (GMT-7)

WASHINGTON: Bush Administration's policies towards India and Pakistan have allowed "grave nuclear risks" to grow in South Asia, Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama said as he drew up a five-point plan for reducing the "region's nuclear dangers", including backing efforts to resolve Kashmir issue. How will you work to reduce the risks posed by India's and Pakistan's nuclear arsenals and programs?" Obama was asked by the Arms Control Today, a journal of non-proliferation NGO Arms Control Association. "

The Bush administration's policies toward both India and Pakistan have allowed grave nuclear risks to grow in South Asia since the 1998 nuclear tests," Obama said in a written response to the query. If elected President, he will work to reduce "the region's nuclear dangers" in a number of ways, Obama said. Both Obama and his Republican rival John McCain were given written questions on wide-ranging nuclear issues.

The Republican Senator, the ACT said, did not respond. "First, I will expand the Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI) from its current focus on stopping illicit nuclear shipments to eradicating nuclear black market networks, like the remnants of the Abdul Qadeer Khan organization," the Democrat Senator said.
