Headquarters of one of the most important districts in the Shekhawati region in Rajasthan, Sikar is safely located in the shade of huge walls with seven entrance gates to the town. Sikar is a good getaway for lazing around, drinking in a new culture, doing photo walks and talking to the locals while gawking at marvellous monuments.
The forts, palaces and Havelis with the exotic craft of fresco and intricate architecture do not fail to amaze you.

Sikar district spreads over 7,742 sq km of an area and is located in the northeastern part of Rajasthan. It is confined from all the four directions by Jhunjhunu, Churu, Nagaur, Jaipur and Mahendragarh districts.

Forts of Sikar
There are many forts in Sikar that have historical value and are immensely beautiful. One such fort is Danta Fort which is on Sikar-Jaipur road via Jobner. It was built by Guman Singh Ladkhani in 1733 and the fort is famous for being on the top and granting a breathtaking view.
Khachariawas has one more beautiful fort for you to visit. It is built on the ground so no trekking there. Khandela is a town near Sikar that is surrounded by Aravali hills. This town has many heart captivating forts like Bara Pana Fort, Chhota Pana Fort, Charoda, Rashora’s garden and many other spectacular places.
Earlier, Sikar was called as “Beer Bhan Ka Bassa”. After the death of Daulat Singh’s father Jaswant Singh, the raja of Khandela, Bahadur Singh presented the village to Daulat Singh as a gift. On the raised ground of this village, he laid down the foundation stone of the fort.
Later, his brave son Shiv Singh made a beautiful fort on it. Further, he was known as the most prominent Rao Raja of Sikar. The village was developed into a beautiful town which was surrounded by a strong boundary wall.
Devgarh
Devgarh is a place situated around 10 km away from Sikar on Harshnath road. The place is known to be popular for its strategic fort that Rao Raja Devi Singh of Sikar had built-in 1787.
It’s worth visiting this place. The place is exotic and vibrant in its own way and that’s why it has started becoming one of the most favorite destinations among visitors.
The place presents a lot of facts for the visitors which make their visit exciting and interesting. The place is popular for its historical monuments, colorful havelis, ancient forts and lovely palaces.
Danta Ramgarh
Famous for its magnificent fort, Danta Ramgarh is 51 km away from Sikar on the Sikar-Jaipur road. This fort was built in 1733 by Guman Singh Ladkhani and the view from the fort is absolutely stunning.
Other forts in the township can also be visited with prior permission from the village head.
Harshnath temple
Fourteen km away from Sikar, the Harshnath temple is famous for still housing the remains of the Shiva temple from 10 AD. The architectural beauty of the temple is breathtaking. Another Shiva temple nearby as built in the 18th century and enjoys a huge following.
Khatushyamji
Khatushyamji, Khatoo is a small village 65 km away from Sikar. Built with white marbles, this is a popular temple dedicated to Shyamji, a Hindu god considered to be equivalent to Lord Krishna.
Ganeswar
Eighty km away from Sikar, Ganeswar is as much a pilgrimage site as is it is a picnic spot. The hot water sulphur spring here is very famous. It is said that a dip in this spring cures all the skin diseases and allergies of the visitor.
Ganeswar is also a place of huge archaeological interest. A recent excavation in Ganeswar resulted in the discovery of the remains of a 4,000-year-old civilization.
BEST TIME TO VISIT
October to March are the best months to visit Sikar. Falling in Rajasthan, Sikar experiences extremely hot and semi-arid summers with temperature going as high as 45 to 50 degrees Celsius.
Starting from October, as the temperature begins to fall, the weather becomes pleasant to support tourist excursions. From October to March, you might need a pair of light woollens to carry along.
The weather during this time of the year is pleasant and breezy which makes it the ideal time to visit. Winters are a great time to visit the various forts and palaces and explore these magnificent buildings closer.
Summer season in Sikar begins from April and continues till June. The weather during this time of the year is scorching and torrid with temperatures rising up to 50-degree Celcius. This is not an ideal time of the year to take a trip to Sikar because of the intense heat.
Monsoon season in Sikar begins from July and continues till September and 90 per cent of Rajasthan’s rainfall occurs during these months. The average temperature during this time ranges between 32 and 45 degrees Celcius.
HOW TO REACH
By air: Jaipur airport is 116 km from Sikar. Taxies, state and private buses from Jaipur are available to Sikar.
By road: Sikar is well connected by a wide network of roads with other cities of Rajasthan.
By train: Sikar railway station is connected with other cities in the Shekhawati region and to the key cities of the country.
Local transport in Sikar: Shared jeeps and buses can be used for travelling within the city. For covering places away from Sikar, it is suggested that you book a taxi and cover various spots in your itinerary on a day.
