Mental Health can be defined as “a person’s condition with regard to their psychological and emotional well-being” However, many ideas and culture makes mental health a complicated subject. There is a stigma around mental health that decreases the chance of people getting mental health support. Mental health is something that can affect someone’s daily life.
When discussing the topic of health, a lot of the discussion is directed towards the body and not the mind, but the truth is that both are just as important for a person to be truly happy and healthy. Mental Health is a person’s physiological, emotional, and social well being. Mental Health affects how people think, feel and act, it also dictates how decisions are made and how stress is handled.
The way we think causes us to make good or bad decisions. If we think more negatively, it provokes us to see people and situations to be against us, it causes us to make bad decisions, and also causes an influx of emotions such as sadness and anger. This also can affect our physical health, as mental illness such as anxiety disorders can cause risk of strokes and heart disease. Problems such as bullying and insecurities are some of the ways our thinking can be altered for the worse.
Not taking care of your Mental Health can cause rifts in relationships, work/productivity schedules, and daily life in general. Mental Health also affects our emotions, such as making us so sad to the point of depression or making us so mad to the point of rage. Emotions cloud judgement and decision making sometimes, so if we feel too strongly about a situation, it can lead to many serious and threatening outcomes.
In conclusion, Mental Health can be altered in many ways, good or bad depending on what happens in our lives. It causes us to make the decisions we make, feel the way we do, and think the way we do. It is important for us to keep our mental health in check and have others to help keep us in the right lane as it can not only help us regulate our lives, it can also save us.
If you feel like you need help or you have a negative way of thinking, talk to a person you trust, a counselor, or a psychologist or therapist. Make sure to speak up about Mental Health when needed and make sure it is something you check regularly not just for yourself but also others to make sure everyone is happy and healthy.
