SAN JOSE, CA: In the month of Feb, Shri Yoga Vedant Sewa Samiti, non-profit group organizes a popular event, Parents Worship Day for appreciating and expressing love for parents as well as honor the sacrifices that the parents make for their children.
Their objective is to focus children’s attention towards their parents rather than getting distracted by the commercialization and peer pressure in the name of Valentine’s Day. This event was started by octogenarian saint Shri AsharamjiBapu 17 years ago and has become hugely popular in India. In California also, this event is taking place at dozens of places in the bay area, including San Jose, Dublin, Pleasanton and Pittsburg with San Martin and Mountain House events planned for next week.
The events were appreciated by the parents and children alike. The children put tilak on the forehead of their parents, circled around them like Ganesh did with his parents Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati; garland them, offer sweets and touch their feet in respect. The parents hug the kids and give them their garlands. In India also, this event was celebrated in thousands of locations.
