Hindu Mandir of Lake County, Grayslake, IL organized Samohika Satyanarayana Puja and Guru Purnima festival by honoring and celebrating the living Gurus as the sources of wisdom in our society. Hundreds of devotees actively participated in these events with much enthusiasm and zeal.
In the afternoon, Samohika Satyanarayana Puja started with fifty sponsors’ sankalpam. They were provided all puja Samagri by the temple. Then temple priests, Pt. Anil Joshi, Pt, Bala Ji Gopal, and Pt. Radha Krishna performed Shree Ganesh and Lord Vishnu and Ma Lakshmi Puja while chanting Vedic Mantras.
Pt. Joshi narrated not only the Swami Satyanarayana Katha but also gave the message that this Katha is supposed to be done collectively with  all the family members, relatives friends, and neighbors since Lord Vishnu wants to see real human being in everyone. This Katha has all the solutions for all the problems of Kailua.
In his brief discourse, Pt Joshi Ji said that this Katha inspires everyone to become a real and humble human being and have theSantana qualities like showing love for others, sharing your skills, and not in use belongings with others, and finding satisfaction in sacrificing for others.
He further added that these qualities are disappearing from people in Kailua. This Katha certainly helps people to bring about and imbibe these qualities in their everyday life. According to our astrology, the Brahmins and the senior citizens are the Gurus of our families, communities, and society and they represent our Lord Brahaspati – he added.
In the evening’s Guru Purnima celebration, almost 30 people were honored from the greater Chicago Hindu community. Brahmins and senior people from various Hindu communities were honored very devotionally since they are our living sources of wisdom and preserving our Santana Dharma, age-old knowledge, traditions, customs and rituals. Their feet were cleaned by the young devotees, and were offered tilak, Akshata, Scarf or Anga Vastram, and phalpushpam with some small gifts.
Maha Mangalarati was followed by a sumptuous Prasadam prepared by the temple kitchen committee was distributed to all the devotees and special invitees of the event with much cheerfulness. Manoj Adhikari, temple president thanked all the devotees, special invitees, temple priests, and the selfless volunteer for their support, dedication and services, to make all events memorable.
