CHICAGO: The Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) conducted flag hoisting ceremony under the Chairmanship of Ranjit Ganguly at Daley Plaza in the morning on Aug 15 in the presence of 250 plus members, guests and others. National Anthem was played on cassette while hoisting the National flag. American National Anthem was sung by Porsha Joyce.
Among the dignitaries present were, Ald Ameya Pawar, Ald Debra Silverstein, State Senator Ira Silverstein and members as well as office bearers of FIA. President Ajay Agnihotri welcomed all those present while Iftekhar Shareef, a Trustee, recounting FIA history in brief and its achievements. One of the founding members of FIA, Ranjit Ganguly also made a brief speech and underlined the importance of India Day celebrations.
The cultural program was the star attraction with performance of classical and folk dances of India. Ananda Dance Theater presented Kuchipudi and Mohini Attam dances. Nitya Dance Theater presented two dances – Ganesh Stuti Gypsy and Bharat Natyam Fusion. Bollywood Fusion was presented by students of Barrington High School and Bhangada Hadipa was performed by Chicago Group.
