OAKLAND: The Multi-Ethnic Sports Hall of Fame announced today it will honor Ritu Maheshwari, who will receive the Hall of Fame’s Community Advocate Award. The ceremony will be held at Scott’s Seafood Pavilion, #2 Broadway, Oakland. CA 94607 from 6 pm-10 pm.
Maheshwari is a passionate community leader who strives to unite the Indian-American community and help youth connect with their culture and roots. She has actively worked to give victims of crime and domestic violence a voice by making resources available, making documentaries, and creating awareness in society through her YouTube channel.
The Hall of Fame will induct six retired professional athletes at the ceremony.
Leigh Steinberg is an American sports agent, philanthropist, and author.
Bill Cartwright is an American former professional basketball player and former head coach of the Chicago Bulls of the NBA.
Donna de Varona is an American former swimmer, Olympic champion, activist, and television sportscaster.
John Paye is a former professional football player who was a quarterback and a retired high school basketball coach. He is elder brother to Kate Paye, the head coach of the Stanford Cardinal women’s basketball team.
Chris Mullin is an American former professional basketball player, executive, and coach.
Brad Gilbert is an American former professional tennis player, tennis coach, tennis commentator, and analyst for ESPN.
Mike Felder, a former Major League Baseball player, will receive the Curt Flood Platinum Award. Mike’s knowledge and support of Curt’s sacrifice make him an ideal recipient of this prestigious award.
This promises to be a historic and celebratory evening, as we will be joined by iconic players from across professional sports and industry disciplines. The no-host cocktail hour begins at 5:30 p.m., dinner at 7:00 p.m., and the ceremony at 8:00 p.m. All times are prompt. General tickets are $175.00; Tables of 10 are available as well.
MESHOF is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring athletes from all corners of the globe who have made significant contributions to the world of sports and broadening the public’s understanding of the contributions people of color have made to professional sports, and to provide educational life skills and mentorship opportunities for deserving youth—proceeds from this event to benefit MESHOF’s overall youth after school and mental health initiatives.
