European Apples and Kiwis Win Hearts in India with Quality, Taste, and Tradition
European apples and kiwis are gaining recognition in India not only for their taste, but also for their story. These fruits, grown in Poland and Greece, stand out because of their unique combination of heritage, climate, and sustainable farming practices. Highlighted by the EU-funded Garden of Europe campaign, they show how centuries of knowledge and care result in fruit that is both delicious and responsibly grown.
European apples and kiwis benefit from a cultivation tradition passed down through generations, enriched by fertile soils, cool winters, and sunny summers. Farmers follow environmentally responsible practices, protecting biodiversity and applying natural plant protection methods that reduce chemical inputs. Combined with deep technical expertise in orchard management and post-harvest care, these efforts ensure fruits that deliver exceptional flavor while respecting people and the planet.
Poland is Europe’s largest apple producer, with over 3.5 million tonnes harvested in the 2024/2025 season. Its Gala, Golden Delicious, Red Jonaprince, and Idared varieties are prized for their sweetness, crunch, and juiciness. Greece, meanwhile, has emerged as the EU’s top kiwi exporter, cultivating sun-ripened Hayward kiwis that are known for their juicy flesh, vibrant flavor, and long shelf life
Indian consumers can enjoy these fruits nearly year-round: apples are available from August through April, with peak exports in October, while kiwis are harvested from November through May.
