Shree Divya Dham, Woodside, NY arranged Sarva Pitru Amavasya Puja on September, 21, 2025 evening from 4:00pm to 6:00pm for those devotees who do not know the tithi (death date) of their ancestors or has missed offering shraddha on the exact day, then the new moon day of Pitru Paksha is observed as the universal day to remember and appease all ancestors.
Temple management arranged the Pitru Puja Thalis with Jal tumbler, black sesame seeds (til), barley (Jau), Kusha grass, and Chandan paste, for more than 30 families. Temple priest, Pt. Mukesh Sharma Ji instructed all the devotees why and how we are performing certain Shradha rituals, while chanting Mantras Om Sarvebhyaḥ Pitribhyaḥ Swaḍhā Namaḥ (thrice). He asked devotees to remember their ancestors with gratitude while offering water with sesame not just to the known three generations but to all ancestors, known and unknown on both paternal and maternal sides.
Kusha grass is said to absorb negative vibrations and purify the ritual space. Placing Kusha in water is believed to help it stay energetically pure and stable. The grass has high silica content, which is a natural conductor of energy – Pt Sharma explained. He further said that Deva (heaven) Puja, Rishi (wisdom) Puja and Pitru (roots) Pujas balance all three realms, and our life becomes prosperous and spiritually fulfilling.

At the final prayer, all the devotees joined hands, remembering all their forefathers collectively
And prayed for peace and salvation of their ancestors and sought forgiveness for mistakes and blessings for their happiness, long life, strength, and wisdom.
Maha Mangala Rati was performed with full devotion. Later, a Satvik sumptuous Maha Prasadam was served to all the devotees considering it as feeding the ancestors themselves.
