SAN MATEO, CA: November 2, The stage of the College of San Mateo Theater transformed into a cosmic canvas as TaalSutra, a Bay Area–based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dance company, premiered its magnum opus “Creation: From Dashavatar to Elton John.” Staying true to TaalSutra’s mission of bringing India’s rich art and culture to global audiences, the 1.5-hour multimedia spectacle wove mythology, philosophy, and environmental consciousness into a visually stunning dance-theatre experience.

Featuring a cast of 44 dancers and 2 actors, the production brought together four of India’s eight classical dance forms — Kathak, Odissi, Bharatanatyam, and Manipuri — alongside Western classical ballet, in an impressive artistic dialogue. TaalSutra collaborated with Peninsula Ballet Theater, the second longest-running ballet company in the Bay area, to create a seamless cultural fusion that celebrated both Indian and Western artistic vocabularies.

Creation unfolded as a cosmic conversation between Earth and the Soul of Humanity, debating mankind’s journey — its triumphs, technological marvels, and artistic achievements — against the backdrop of environmental decay and moral disarray. As Earth retold the myth of the Dashavatar, the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu symbolizing the evolutionary progression of life, it yearned for the arrival of the tenth avatar, the savior destined to restore balance. The Soul, however, proposed a different redemption — that humanity itself had the power to save both Earth and itself through collective awakening and conscious change.

The story culminated in a spectacular finale, where TaalSutra’s Indian classical dancers and Peninsula ballet artists united on stage to the uplifting music of Sir Elton John, symbolizing hope, unity, and renewal. The performance’s riot of colors, intricate choreography, and dramatic storytelling left the audience spellbound — a testament to art’s ability to bridge cultures and inspire transformation.

Conceptualized and directed by TaalSutra co-founders Arundhati Parmar (script writer), Kanika Mitra, Mousumi Bose, and Urmi Chakraborty, Creation stands as a landmark production in the Bay Area’s cultural calendar — a vibrant testament to collaboration, creativity, and the enduring resilience of the human spirit.
