NEW YORK: The Consul General of India, New York hosted a reception for the New York Chapter of the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) Alumni Gathering on October 26 at New India House. The event was attended by about seventy guests comprising members of CIIS, distinguished academics and senior officials of the Consulate.
Welcoming the gathering, Consul General Prabhu Dayal, citing examples of ancient philosophy, spoke about the values of integral education and its relevance in contemporary living. The main attraction of the evening was a lecture by Ms. Ameeta Mehra, Chairperson of the Gnostic Centre and International Centre for Integral Studies, Delhi. Ms. Mehra spoke on ‘The Founding Spirit of Auroville, the universal township in South India which was set up on the philosophical principles of Sri Aurobindo.
She stated that Auroville was created to bring together citizens of the world to render themselves to become willing servitors of the divine consciousness, through unending education to establish a new order of human unity.
Others who spoke on the occasion were President Joseph L. Subbiondo and Dean Richard Buggs, of the CIIS.
The event concluded with a dinner reception.
