CHICAGO: The annual Diwali celebration held by the Six Gam Patidar Samaj of Chicago was an event filled with joy and gaiety. It was held at the Meadows Club on November 9.
Over 440 Six Gamis and guests dressed in colorful traditional attire flocked to the Meadows Club to celebrate Diwali associating themselves with thousands of Guajratis across the globe. After a social hour filled with lot of tasty appetizers, the program started with the ceremonial lamp lighting by the President, Dilip Patel, Chief Guest Naren Patel and the Board of Trustees.
This was followed by some colorful dances by young second generation Gujarati American dancers. Some rocking Bollywood numbers were the highlights of the evening.
The dances were followed by brief speeches by President Dilip Patel and other officials of the Samaj who thanked the members for their whole hearted support of the organization. Leading members of association and sponsors were then introduced.
Diptesh Desai was the Master of Ceremonies.
A delicious dinner followed and put the attendees in the right spirit for a couple of hours of riveting entertainment from singers Samir Date and Dipalee Somaiyya, visiting from Mumbai.
The duo sang a variety of Bollywood hits spanning three decades and had the audience dancing and waltzing on the dance floor.
The audience rocked and slow danced to some mesmerizing numbers by the duo who were very ably accompanied by Johny John on the drums/percussions and Mita Das on the keyboard/piano.
In the end, they invited Naren Patel on the stage to honor him with a bouquet on his birthday and Samir Date sang the famous birthday song “Bar Bar Din Ye Aaye Tum Jio Hazaro Saal”.
