DSP murder case: CM says action will be taken against guilty

policePRATAPGARH: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today promised to take action against the guilty in the killings of a police officer and a village head in this district for which the state government has recommended a CBI probe.

“Action would be taken against those policemen who fled away from the scene….those who showed weakness. Action would be taken against those found guilty,” the Chief Minister told reporters after visiting the family of the slain village head Nanhe Yadav in Kunda here.

The Chief Minister described the killings as “very tragic” and said that “things would be clear only after completion of the CBI inquiry” and the UP government will fully cooperate with the investigation.

The UP Police had yesterday virtually ruled out immediate arrest of SP leader Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya booked in the murder of DSP Zia-ul-Haq on Saturday and said it needs to be established first who committed the crime before the conspiracy angle can be probed.

The police also said that the post-mortem report of the DSP, Circle Officer of Kunda in Pratapgarh district from where Raja Bhaiya is a five-time Independent MLA, has shown only one bullet injury and the bullet is untraceable.

To a question whether Raja Bhaiya would be arrested, UP Parliamentary Affairs Minister Azam Khan, who accompanied the Chief Minister, said, “Wait for a while”.

Khan also said, “I am not the one to decide. I am not the court. I had stated in the state Assembly that it was for the court of law to decide about who is guilty.”

Asked about protests by local people, the Chief Minister said, “Those who want to do politics about the incident and want to take it in another direction and give it a different color will indulge in sloganeering. No one should indulge in politics over the incident.”

He said all demands made by the wife of the slain DSP Parveen Azad with regard to the investigation have been accepted by the state government.

“The demand for a CBI inquiry was accepted without any delay. We have also given a compensation of Rs 20 lakhs each to the families of the two victims. We have assured the families that the government is with them. The government will fully cooperate with the investigation,” Yadav said.

ADG (Law and Order) Arun Kumar had said yesterday that the state government has sent a letter to the Centre in connection with the CBI inquiry into the Pratapgarh incident.

44-year-old Raja Bhaiya, who has been booked under Section 120 B IPC (criminal conspiracy), had on Monday resigned from the state Cabinet. Khan said, “It’s an unfortunate incident, but the prompt and stern action taken after it is an example in itself”.

On the demand for a second post-mortem of the slain police officer by his wife, Khan said, “The post-mortem has been conducted by doctors. If any wrong has been done in that, they will be punished”.

Rajya Bhaiya has been named in one of the FIRs following a complaint by the officer’s wife. Two persons including Raja Bhaiya’s supporter Guddu Singh have already been arrested after lodging of four FIRs.

Raja Bhaiya, who has a criminal record and has been sent to jail before, has claimed that he is being framed by his political opponents and welcomed the CBI probe. A former Jails Minister, he also claimed that Guddu Singh was in Lucknow during the mob violence.
