Debutante Amyra Dastur was chosen over 200 girls, who auditioned for Bachchi Kashyap’s role in Issaq. Produced by Shailesh R Singh and Dhaval Gada, the film is the desi adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo And Juliet.
The makers carried out a nationwide hunt to choose their actress. But interestingly, “we found her in Mumbai,” says director Manish Tiwary.
He adds, “Amyra’s headstrong nature, which is part of Juliet’s persona, worked in her favor. Also, we wanted someone very young since Shakespeare’s Juliet was only 14.”
Amyra says she had no hopes about bagging the role. “I had auditioned for other films, but in vain. So, I felt it would be futile to try again. My manager had to literally drag me. When Manish spoke to me, I did not know that he was the director and auditioned with indifference. Later, they called me for a 10-day workshop saying I had been selected.”
