NEW DELHI: Paying homage to martyrs of Kargil war on the 14th anniversary of Operation Vijay, BJP MP Anurag Singh Thakur today said a war memorial will be constructed in Himachal Pradesh to honor them.
Thakur said he would lead the initiative with a contribution of Rs one crore from his MPLADS fund and get the remaining from other MPs for the construction, which is estimated at Rs 11 crore.
Expressing disappointment that the country does not have a “war memorial to honor the sacrifice of its heroes”, Thakur said he would request the state government to allocate land at the earliest for this initiative.
The BJP leader also demanded that the Centre should act “swiftly” and build a grand National War Memorial on similar lines in the national capital.
He said that of the four Param Vir Chakras given to Kargil heroes, two were awarded to soldiers from Himachal Pradesh and that this war memorial would be an inspiration for generations of children who wish to join the armed forces. -PTI
