DEHRADUN: The Dhikala zone of Corbett Tiger Reserve and the Chilla range of Rajaji National Park were opened for visitors after a five-month closure.
The gates of Dhikala zone of the CTR were closed on June 13 due to torrential rains just three days before a deluge of catastrophic proportions struck Uttarakhand on June 16-17.
CTR receives nearly 2 lakh tourists annually, of whom 8,000-10,000 are foreigners.
When asked whether the June calamity will affect the inflow of tourists to CTR this season, its Deputy Director H C Upadhyay replied in the negative saying wildlife tourism will not be affected by the disaster as people from all over the world come to CTR to spot tigers.
The Chilla range of Rajaji National Park, the biggest habitat for Asiatic elephants, closed since June 14 was also opened for visitors with its entrance in Haridwar decked up especially for the occasion, Deputy Director of the Park Saket Badola said. -PTI
