NEW DELHI: 55 Corporates participated in the third Edition of Corporate Games held here on November 22 to 24. The events were held in Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Dhyanchand National Stadium, Siri Fort Complex, Jamia Millia University and Saket Sports Club. The participants competed in 12 sports disciplines, namely, Badminton, Billiards, Squash, Tennis, Table Tennis, Chess, Cricket 8s, Golf (Men-Women), Soccer 6s and Soccer.
Major Ports Sports Control Board, who had entered 113 sports persons, were awarded Sports For Life Trophy. It was collected by their Chairman P.D Vaghela. They also won the overall trophy known as Medalist Award for winning maximum number of medals.
Cricket as usual was the most popular discipline. Major Ports won Cricket Finals against HSBC in a well-fought match.
In Chess, all the medals Gold, Silver & Bronze went to Major Ports.
Garden Reach Ship Builders Engineering from Kolkata lost to Major Ports in the finals of Volleyball.
TCS defeated Cadence in Basketball with a score of 17 to 13.
Rohinton Mehta from ITC, Mumbai participated in three events of Running Discipline 100m, 200m & 800m and got the gold medal in all 3 events.
In athletics there were five events 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m & 1500m which were conducted at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The medal winners belonged to Major Ports Sports Control Board, IRCTC, ITC, Punj Lloyd, Railtel and ONGC.
In Soccer 11 Major Ports Sports Control Board defeated Garden Reach by 5-4 goals. In Soccer 6s Major Ports Sports Control Board won defeating HDFC.
In Golf, Oscar Dung from MPSCB secured Gold medal. The Silver was won by Capt Krishan Sharma of India Post and bronze by Sandeep Sharma.
In Women’s Golf, Manju Jakhar won gold. Silver medal was won by Kiran Vaid and Shagun Agarwal won bronze medal.
Squash Men 40+ Singles gold was won by Subodh of Aviation & Defense. Second was Amit Bhatia from Sirifort and third was Saran Vaid, also of Sirifort Sports Complex.
In Squash Men’s Open Singles Harjinder of Jet Airways won Gold and Silver medal was won by Chitvan Bedi of Jet Airways. Third was Kunal Verma of HSBC.
Cairn India’s Subhash Chandra won gold in Cycling followed by HSBC’s Manmeet Sahni. Third was Shiva Prasad of ONGC Videsh.
Tennis Men Open Singles winners were Aditya Khanna of Rebound Ace followed by Jitin Bishnoi of Sirifort and third was Anshul Bagai of Rebound Ace.
There was a glittering closing award function where winning companies were given trophies followed by an Aerobic Dance performance.
A group of children from Punjab made an impressive karate demonstration followed by closing of games by Shri K.P Singh Deo, former Union Minister & Patron of the Games. Shri Deo emphasized the need for Corporates to permit maximum number of employees to participate in games and sports for their lifelong fitness.
