ST LOUIS, MO: The Saint Louis Art Museum offers family programs every Sunday throughout the year and during the month of December they are highlighting winter celebrations from around the world.

Focus of Family Sunday on Dec 1 at the Museum was on Indian culture. There were tattoo artist demonstrating and applying henna tattoos. Also featured were calligraphy, yoga and Rangoli (traditional decoration using colors and flowers). Sherri Williams, Family Program Coordinator of Saint Louis Art Museum also invited Bal Vihar of St. Louis to participate in exposing Indian culture to the St. Louis community.

In front of over 250 attendees, Bal Vihar team enthusiastically performed dances and musicals. The activities included demonstration of Yoga and its importance. Students spoke to the audience about Indian culture while Bal Vihar volunteers were present at each table to enlighten the attendees about Indian culture and history.

Since 1992, Bal Vihar students are actively participating in the St. Louis, MO community. They are involved in the community awareness programs such as visiting local hospital and giving handmade items to patients, collecting and offering food to the needy, conducting activities for senior citizens and participating in the interfaith activities etc.

The children participate in debates such as values of various cultures and their significance, their own cultural values in the modern society and living in harmony.

Center for Indian Cultural Education – Bal Vihar of St. Louis is a non-profit organization. Since its inception in 1992 it has been serving the Metro St. Louis Indian community. The primary focus of the organization is to provide Indian cultural education to students age 5-18 and its application and integration with the global multicultural and multifaceted society.

Students are also taught discipline, tolerance and devotion in their daily routine. The ultimate goal is “to throw the light of cultural knowledge on every child, to make every child an outstanding citizen and to spread the song of peace and harmony around the world.”
