NEW DELHI: Union Home Ministry has sought a detailed report from Delhi Police over the incident leading to the death of an Arunachal Pradesh MLA’s son here after the youth was allegedly beaten up by some shopkeepers following an altercation.
“Home Ministry is in constant touch with Delhi Police. The issue of the safety of students and others from the northeastern part of the country who are residing in Delhi and other states has been a major concern for the Centre,” an MHA official said, adding that, along with the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, it has time and again suggested steps for the states on the question of their security and safety.
The official said that Delhi Police has shared the facts of the case with them and the investigation into the case was still on.
Sources, meanwhile, said that the post-mortem report of the deceased student did not indicate major external injuries although a detailed probe is still on to ascertain the cause of death.
Police has registered a case of murder in connection with the death of Nido Tania, son of Congress MLA and Parliamentary Secretary in the Health and Family Welfare Department, Nido Pavitra, yesterday with the incident having sparked a furor over allegations of discrimination against people from the northeast. -PTI
