VARANASI: Brushing aside Priyanka Gandhi’s attack on Narendra Modi on the ‘Snoopgate’ controversy, his close aide Amit Shah has said a judicial commission was investigating the case and people should wait for its report.
Shah also rejected Congress’ demand for a detailed probe into the controversy saying no fresh inquiry committee was necessary as a judicial probe was already on.
“It does not matter what Priyanka Gandhi says. There is a probe panel which is investigating into it. Wait for the report of the panel,” Shah told PTI.
Last week, Priyanka, while campaigning in Rae Bareli, had targeted Modi by raising the Snoopgate issue, saying, “If you want to empower women, then why listen to their private conversations.
“If there are such political leaders who indulge in wrong acts against women, they should be thrown out of parties,” she had said.
The Union Cabinet had on December 26 last year decided to set up the Commission of Inquiry to probe charges of illegal surveillance on a young woman in 2009 by Gujarat authorities allegedly on directions of Modi.
Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde had requested the Law Minister to recommend a retired judge of the Supreme Court to head the probe panel. However, the government is yet to appoint the panel.–PTI
