BHUBANESWAR: The much awaited south west monsoon arrived in coastal parts of the eastern state of Odisha on Wednesday triggering rainfall in different areas of the state and providing the much needed relief from blistering heat.
Director of the meteorological centre here S C Sahu said the south-west monsoon is covering coastal districts of Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Balasore.
The monsoon also hit some parts of districts like Gajapati, Ganjam, Khurda, Cuttack and also some portions of adjoining interior districts of Jajpur, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj, the MeT office said.
Conditions are favorable for further advance of southwest monsoon into remaining parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar and some parts of Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha and east Uttar Pradesh during next 48 hours, Sahu said.
The light to moderate pre-monsoon rains yesterday considerably lowered temperatures providing relief to the people of north and south western region of the state.–PTI
