MUMBAI: Devendra Fadnavis on Friday took oath as the 27th Chief Minister of Maharashtra and the first from BJP in the state, at a grand function in Mumbai’s Wankhade Stadium.
Devendra Fadnavis was administered his oath as amid massive cheering from the crowd. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah were present on the dais during this occasion. Television visuals showed Uddhav Thackeray was present in the crowd.
After Fadnavis, Eknath Khadse, Sudhir Mungantiwar and Vinod Tawde took their oaths. Others who took oath were Pankaja Munde, Prakash Mehta, Vishnu Sawra and Chandrakant Patil.
Fadnavis, a fourth-term MLA from Nagpur, is the 18th person to hold the post of Chief Minister. He will also be the fourth politician from Vidarbha region to become CM and at 44, the second youngest person to hold the top post in Maharashtra.
Dignitaries from across the country such as former CM Prithviraj Chavan, Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu, NCP leader Ajit Pawar and Prafull Patel attended the swearing in ceremony.-Agencies
