SCHILLER PARK: Mrs Mohina Ahluwalia of Chicago was awarded the Asian Humanitarian 2014, and the Kular family of Burr Ridge were honored as the Asian American Model Family by Asian Chronicle USA TV Channel Program. Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White was the Chief Guest.
Both of them also received The President’s Call to Service certificate and lapel pin in addition to the plaques. The award ceremony on November 23 was one of the highlights of a dinner banquet held at Sheraton Four Points Hotel, in Schiller Park. More than 250 guests, mostly Asian Americans of Chicago, were present. The program included musical entertainment and an Asian ethnic dress fashion show. Vandna Ahluwalia and Sharon Naidu represented India in the fashion show.
The Asian Humanitarian Award and the Asian Model Family Award are given annually by the Asian Chronicle TV channel to individuals and families which are cohesive role models for others to emulate, extend numerous civic and community services here and/or in their native countries, and they impact the positive image of Asians in America.
Mrs Mohina Ahluwalia, a blend of, community leadership and business entrepreneurship, is the head of Sandtech Inc., Alfa Mfg. Industries Inc., and National Abrasives and Tool Corporation. She was the founding director and secretary of Indo-American Center in Chicago. She was also a member of, and resource contributor to Apna Ghar.
In 2010 Mohina was the Chairperson of the Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago, a very active community service organization promoting Asian culture in the Chicago area.
Ronny Singh Kular a telecommunication professional is actively involved in DePaul Alumni Association.
He is Vice President of Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago (PCS) serving it since inception. Kular has been actively involved with Asian American Coalition of Chicago for the last 20 years and has played the leading role in “Dharam di Chader”, an Indian play with world famous Punjabi stage artist Harpal Tiwana
Kular is happily married to Rajnish Kular, MD, currently in practice and active in various Medical Associations. They are blessed with two kids, 12 year old son Kermen Kular and 7 years old daughter, Avneet Kular. Despite their busy schedules, the Kulars devote their time to their kids to inculcate good moral and ethical values.
Asian Chronicle USA is a television program on public access cable broadcast in 90 suburban communities of Chicagoland area. The program, started in 1997, is a labor of love and service to the Asian American community-at-large by professionally trained crew extending their services pro-bono.
