MILPITAS, CA: Janyaa is a non-profit organization founded by few idealistic engineers who realized that lives of under privileged rural children in India can be changed by changing the way they learn at school. Started in 2009 by Venu Nadella, Janyaa has been on a mission of empowering children with hands on learning.
Janyaa is a 501c (3) tax exempt non profit organization. With its unique lab in the box program, Janyaa teaches young children across India the concepts of science and math in an effective way so that children can understand them by relating them to their daily life. It has reached over 800 schools and helped over 100,000 students in states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Kerala, Odisha and Gujarat.
Janyaa had their 2nd Annual Gala on May 9 at India Community Center, Milpitas. It was a fun filled evening with standup comedy by Richard Sarvate, magic show by Majinga, music, dance to raise funds and awareness for Janyaa. The event was attended by over 500 and Janyaa raised over $50,000 to reach 608 schools and benefit over 125,000 students in 6 years.
The working model of Janyaa is quite simple. A kit containing over 90 science and math experiments has been developed to match the curriculum of state schools. Each experiment has been carefully crafted using the principles of simplicity and practical understanding. Teachers are trained on using this kit to teach children from 6th to 9th grade. These teachers then make the daily classes in their schools more effective and interesting by infusing the hands on experiments from Janyaa.
With this, children take more interest in understanding the concepts, relate them effectively to their daily lives and more importantly have increased scientific temperament. Janyaa has consistently received a highly positive and encouraging response from both teachers and students. Janyaa’s program is highly sustainable and cost effective.
A kit delivered to a school empowers students for 4 consecutive years. Janyaa’s experiments are provided to schools in 3 boxes where all the experiments use very simple material that is easily available anywhere. This enables the child to practice with them without any fear of breaking them. And all this for less than $1 per child per year.
Venu Nadella, founder of Janyaa thanked the volunteers and supporters and hoped that Janyaa grows manifold in years to come.
