NEWPORT BEACH, CA: The 4th Annual Gala Banquet Fundraiser event of the Foundation for Primary Immunodeficiency Diseases (FPID) was held on the October 3 at the Island Hotel, Newport Beach. It raised net $200,000 for improving lives of children and adults with primary immune deficiency (PID) who are born with genetic defects of the immune system in India and the US, a group of diseases that affect more than 10 million worldwide. More than two hundred guests attended the gala.
The Evening began with a sensational acrobatic performance from Karmagraphy. A touching patient story followed and brought a tear to everyone’s eyes as she said “Dr Sudhir Gupta (founder of FPID) not only saved my life, he saved lives of many patients like me”.
Comic relief was provided by Anish Shah and the legendary Joe Piscopo, (of Saturday Night Live fame). And as if the starstuck night couldn’t get any more dazzling, The Doo Wop Project, current members of Broadway smash hits Jersey Boys and Motown A musical brought the audience to their feet with their hits.
The Foundation is supporting early diagnosis and treatment of children with PID at four major centers in India and a center in the US. One of the centers in India became the first in the world to diagnose PID during pregnancy providing an opportunity for newborns with PID to receive bone marrow transplantation within few months of their birth, which results in cure from these life-threatening diseases.
