Bathukamma celebrated with great enthusiasm

TATA Bathukamma Dussara 7 webMILPITAS, CA: Telangana American Telugu Association (T.A.T.A.), Bay Area, celebrated Bathukamma and Dussehra Jatara, a festival of flowers, in Bay Area, at Indian community Center Milpitas on September 23. More than 1600 members and families from various parts of Bay Area, including LA, attended the festivities.

Bathukamma is a colorful and vibrant annual floral festival celebrated by women. Though originating and celebrated mostly in Telangana region, families across all the regional and cultural boundaries join in this auspicious festival in Bay Area reflecting the unity among Telugu speaking people.

Families brought Bathukammas, a floral arrangement of many varieties of beautiful flowers stacked in layers in the shape of a pyramid. The venue was specially decorated for the celebrations. Entrance with Ravana and Lalitha Kala Toranam, inside with Pochamma temples. Women clad in colorful traditional dresses and choice of beautiful gold ornaments and men and children in the traditional attire added more color to the event.

The festivities started with Lalitha Parayanam, the women members chanting mantras in praise of Goddess Durga who is a symbol of womanhood and the universal Shakti, with utmost devotion.
Later with all the Bathukammas in center, womenfolk danced circling around these floral arrangements singing devotional Bathukamma songs.

The later part of the evening was filled with entertainment and enthralled the audience with many cultural programs.

At the end, the floor was opened to the guests for a non-stop music and dance by Roll Rida Dasara festivals in praise of Goddess Durga. Men and women of all ages paired up dancing to the upbeat music.

Smt. Jhansi Reddy, President of TATA, oversaw all the arrangements with the help of Ramesh Thangellapalli Board of Director and Appi Reddy Regional Vice President. The entire event was supported and encouraged by T.A.T.A. Advisory Council Chair, Dr Pailla Malla Reddy.

Complete Cultural program was organized by Srinivas Manapragada, Cultural Chair person. A major role was played by YUVA for the entrance decoration and in all other activities. Also Iqbal Gattu,(Minority chair),Satish B (Youth Activities chair), Shashank Goud, (Yuva chair), Amith Reddy,(Yuva co-chair), Nishant, (Social media co Chair), Easwari Pachunoori (Regional co-ordinator) Prasad Vuppalapu (Regional co-ordinator) Ravi Kumar Nethi (Regional co-ordinator) Mahesh Nani (Regional co-ordinator), Sohail Ahmed (Regional co-ordinator), Gopal (Regional co-ordinator), Pavitra K (Regional co-ordinator) were the major role played in this event.

Board of Director Ramesh Thangellapalli thanked all the members for their active participation and making the event a great success.

The guests thanked T.A.T.A. for organizing the Bathukamma and Dussehra Jathara festivities and appreciated the meticulous arrangements. They said the event brought back memories of festivities back home before they made it to the US.
