LONDON: “Performing at the Buckingham Palace was an amazing experience,” gushes Baby Doll singer Kanika Kapoor, who was invited by Prince Charles for the 10th anniversary celebration of the British Asian Trust on February 6. The singer performed at the royal address along with British music producer, Naughty Boy. With this feat, Kapoor becomes the only Indian artiste to have performed at the Buckingham Palace.
Kapoor told Mid-day that Boy and she specially curated a set that comprised a mix of Sufi and English music. “This was the first time such an event was held there. Performing Sufi and popular English tracks with DJ Naughty Boy was fun. As an ambassador of the British Asian Trust, I felt proud to represent Indian music on a global platform,” says Kapoor.
She says that the highlight of the event was when she dedicated the love ballad, Kabhi Kabhi Mere Dil Mein [Kabhi Kabhie, 1976], to Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles, Duchess of Cornwall. “We performed songs that are popular in the UK. I started the recital with Lambi Judai and went on to sing my hit number, Jugni. We also performed Naughty Boy’s latest song with Beyoncé, Running. The act ended with a track for the Duke and Duchess, Kabhi Kabhi Mere Dil Mein.”
Baby Doll
Kanika Kapoor rose to fame with the song Baby Doll featuring Sunny Leone. The song went on to become quite a hit among the masses, so much so, that Sunny got the monicker, Baby Doll eventually.
She enthralled the audiences with her performance that consisted of an eclectic mix of Sufi and popular English songs.
Kanika was also a part of the celebration of the Elephant Family Charity – ‘Travels to my Elephants’, which was also hosted by Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall in London. She took to Twitter to share pics from the event.
Speaking about her experience, Kanika said, “It was an honor to perform in the Buckingham Palace for the 10th Anniversary of British Asian Trust at a celebration hosted by Prince Charles. Also the fact that I am the first Indian to perform there was a special feeling altogether. I am looking forward to more such events in the near future.”
Kanika looked beautiful in a glittery gown, designed by British designer, Jenny Peckham for the main event.
