CHICAGO: There is an outcry of resentment against the killing of innocent children in Florida high school across the USA. The NRI Press Club happens to be among the premier organizations that strongly condemns innocents losing their lives.
The Club has urged US President Donald Trump to come out with strong gun laws to curb possibility of a repeat of this kind of happening besides severely punishing the culprits involved in killing innocents
In other parts of the country, Christian, Hindu, Jewish and Buddhist leaders in Nevada met last week in Reno Nevada and strongly condemned the Florida school massacre that killed 17 and injured many.
Mourning the tragic loss of lives, the Hindu American Foundation said in a statement that mass shooting at Parkland Florida school, — the second-deadliest in nation’s history and shockingly the eighteenth shooting at a school in the first seven weeks of this year – underlined the need for “enacting and enforcing legislation that keeps military-grade firearms out of the hands of the general public.”
Different faith leaders in Nevada – Stephen R. Karcher, a senior Greek Orthodox Christian priest; President of Universal Society of Hinduism Rajan Zed; ElizaBeth Webb Beyer, a prominent Jewish Rabbi in Nevada-California; and Matthew T. Fisher, a well-known Buddhist leader –
voiced their views saying “We unanimously condemn any and all acts of violence against innocent people. Our hearts go out to the victims and their loved ones”.
Karcher, Zed, Beyer and Fisher further said: “We are deeply saddened and feel that it was a senseless and shocking violence. We are praying to Almighty to provide the mourning families help and consolation in dealing with this tragedy at this difficult time. Besides these families, we also express deep sympathies to the injured and their relatives and friends. It was heartbreaking for us all”
Urging for interfaith unity, they observed: “We, as people of faith, despite our different belief systems, must take a stand against violence by coming together with kindness and love”.
Suhag Shukla, Executive Director of Hindu American Foundation, said in a statement that: “In the wake of the latest tragic mass shooting at a US school in Parkland, Florida — the second-deadliest in our nation’s history and shockingly the eighteenth shooting at a school in the first seven weeks of this year alone –,“we see the need for enacting and enforcing legislation that keeps military-grade firearms out of the hands of the general public as solidly rooted in Hindu dharma, the ancient holy text, the Mahabharata, reminds us that: ‘Dharma exists for the general welfare of all livings beings; hence, that by which the welfare of all living beings is sustained, that for sure is dharma.’
