NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Culture has recorded data of 6,000 artistes in the last one year as part of the Culture Mapping of India project, the parliament has been informed.
Minister of State for Culture Mahesh Sharma told the Lok Sabha that the government had launched the project in March, 2017 as a talent hunt as well as for collection of database of artistes, artisans and various art forms across the country.
“The total amount of funds allocated for its implementation is Rs 469.404 crore spread over a period of three years from 2017-2018 to 2019-2020. Till date, profiles of about 6,000 artistes have been recorded in the database…”, he said.
The maximum artistes were recorded from Andhra Pradesh (2,743) followed by Arunachal Pradesh (1,002). The least numbers were recorded from Tamil Nadu and Uttarakhand with one entry each.-PTI
