NEW DELHI: In its second year, Dainik Jagran Nielsen Bookscan Bestseller list has for the first time included a separate section for poetry, dominated by Bollywood lyricists and poets like Gulzar, Javed Akhtar and Piyush Mishra.
The bestseller list for Q1 April June 2018 was recently released here by eminent Indian classical dancer and Rajya Sabha MP Sonal Mansingh.
While Gulzar’s “Pluto”, published by Vani Prakashan, made it to the top, Rajkamal Prakashan’s “Lava” by Javed Akhtar, “Kuchh Ishq Kiya Kuchh Kam Kiya” by Piyush Mishra and “Aapkamai” by Swanand Kirkire also featured in the top 10 poetry books list.
In the fiction list, Satya Vyas’ “Dilli Darbar” (Hind Yugm) topped the charts. His “Banaras Talkies” also found a place in the list.
“Baat Abhi Khatam Nahin Hui” (Vani Prakashan) by Kshama Sharma, “Zindagi 50-50” (Rajpal & Sons) by Anmol Bhagwan, “Vishwas ki Hatya” (Westland Limited) by Surendra Mohan Pathak were also among the fiction bestsellers.
“I hope Hindi flourishes exponentially. Lot more needs to be done to promote Hindi in Southern States and North East. We must continue the good work of taking Hindi to every corner of India,” Mansingh said at the event.
While Ajeet Bharti’s “Bakar Puran” (Hind Yugm) topped the non-fiction list, with Anuradha Beniwal’s “Aazadi Mera Brand” (Rajkamal Prakashan) and Mukesh Bhardwaj’s “Satta Ka Satya” (Vani Prakashan) also managed to make the cut.
The bestseller list includes not only books originally penned in Hindi, but also translations of several bestselling English works.
Westland Limited’s “Sita – Mithila Ki Yoddha”, the Hindi translation of Amish Tripathi’s “Sita: Warrior of Mithila” by Urmila Gupta, topped the list.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Exam Warrior” was the second on the list that also saw “Rajesh Khanna: Ek Tanha Sitara” (Harper Collins) by Chintamani Gautam and translated by Mansi Pamila, Devdutt Pattanaik’s “Meri Geeta” (Rupa Publications) among others.
Amish Tripathi’s “Nagaon Ke Rahasya”, translation of “The Secret of Nagas”, and “Vayuputrom Ki Shapath:Shiva Rachna Traya 3”, translation of “The Oath of Vayuputras”, also made it to the list.
