CHICAGO: A large section of Indian Americans are hurt by multinational retail corporation marketing ‘Toe Ring’ with Lord Ganesh image and have asked Walmart to withdraw the Ring, calling it highly inappropriate.
The chorus of protest against the Walmart marketing of the Ring is led by Rajan Zed, President of Universal Society of Hinduism, who argued that Lord Ganesh is highly revered in Hinduism. He is meant to be worshipped in temples or home shrines and not to adorn one’s toe. Any inappropriate usage of Hindu deities or concepts or symbols for commercial or other agenda was not okay as it hurts the devotees’, he pointed out.
Rajan also urged the withdrawal of another inappropriate product involving Lord Ganesh and being sold at Walmart.com: “Shri Ganesha Belly Button Ring”.
