PANAJI: Goa police on Tuesday reviewed security of the Basilica of Bom Jesus at Old Goa near Panaji, one of the state’s most revered churches, against the backdrop of the Easter terror attack in Sri Lanka.
Inspector Jivba Dalvi of Old Goa police station said personnel conducted a security assessment of the church as well as its vicinity in the wake of heightened security across the coastal state after the Sri Lanka terror attacks.
“The Basilica of Bom Jesus is under the Archaeological Survey of India which has deployed 23 special security guards.
Police told them about the dos and donts, checking of luggage and other procedures. The services of the dog squad and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad were also utilised,” Dalvi said.
Nine suicide bombers carried out a series of blasts that tore through three churches and three luxury hotels in Sri Lanka on the Easter Sunday, killing 253 people and injuring over 500 people. PTI
